Apply to be a Homestay Family for International Students

Posted On Thursday April 03, 2025

Have you ever thought of becoming a homestay family?

There are many great reasons to become a host family for an international high school student, including making new friends from different countries, learning more about the world, and discovering new cultures and customs, all from the comfort of your own home.

The Kamloops-Thompson School District compensates host families $1,200 per month, per student. That is $6,000 per semester or $12,000 per school year. Families may host up to two students at a time. Homestays are required throughout the school year, and in July and August.

Host family duties include providing a private room for each student, having regular meals with your student, assisting with school start-up routines, and providing guidance and support while the student studies in the Kamloops-Thompson School District.

Host families are needed throughout the Kamloops-Thompson area.

If you are interested in hosting an international high school student during the upcoming school year or summer, or if you know a friend or family member who may wish to register as a homestay family, please apply at Homestay Application or contact our Acting Homestay Manager, Rosie Kirschner at rkirschner@sd73.bc.ca.
