2019 District Student Advisory Council Convenes

Secondary and middle school students from across the district attended their first meeting of the 2019 District Student Advisory Council (DSAC) Sept. 19 at the Henry Grube Education Centre in Kamloops.

Representatives from each secondary school, Twin Rivers Education Center, the Four Directions Program and from Brock Middle School are participating. They will meet five times throughout the school year to discuss issues, gather input from their respective schools, and then provide advice to the Board of Education.

“This is an opportunity for students to have a voice in educational issues at a high organizational level,” said Rick Keinlein, Director of Instruction. “We are looking forward to hearing from the range of perspectives shared by students across the district, and to supporting a more systematic means of presenting their initiatives.”

He and Rachael Sdoutz, Principal at Sa-Hali Secondary, are the District Sponsors for the DSAC.

Responding to recommendations from last year’s District Student Advisory Council, terms of reference for the council have been revised to allow for greater focus on discussion, collaboration and action. A process has also been put in place for how the recommendations from DSAC will be made known to the Board.
