150 students from 6 Secondary schools will play at the Sagebrush Theatre Jan. 15.

A celebratory Band Festival at the Sagebrush Theatre will help six Senior Bands from across the district to fine-tune their performance. Students perform and hear each other play, and after each band plays, a local adjudicator will provide a short feedback session.

“It gives them a chance to see where they’re at as some of them prepare for upcoming performances during the festival circuit,” said Christy Gauley, Arts Education Coordinator for School District #73.

“It’s a celebration of the music bands are playing across the district,” she said. “This is also an opportunity for students to connect with other schools and to hear each other’s music.”

Everyone is welcome to attend, including parents and the public.  More than 150 students from Valleyview, Norkam, Chase, Sa Hali, South Kamloops Secondary, and Kamloops School of the Arts will be featured. The event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15.

“Strengthening partnerships between teachers, students and the wider community through music is an important part of this program,” Gauley said.
