An Update on the Student and Family Affordability Fund in SD73 for Parents

Posted On Friday September 15, 2023

In the 2022-2023 school year, SD73 families benefitted from accessing $760,237 of the $1,656,000 Student and Family Affordability Fund provided by the Ministry of Education and Child Care for food and fees for courses, school supplies, activities, athletics, and field trips.

This year, the School District carried forward $746,000 of the Student and Family Affordability Fund to support families with school fees. These remaining funds are available to assist students and families with the following fees:

  • School Supplies
  • Course Fees
  • Enhancement Fees (i.e., Woodwork, Foods, Textiles, Band, etc.)
  • Academy Fees

New and existing food and snack programs will continue to be offered at your school through the Ministry’s new Feeding Futures Fund.

There are two ways to access fee assistance: online through SchoolCash Online or by completing a paper copy of the fees form at your school. If you require more information about or assistance with accessing SchoolCash Online, please contact your school’s secretary or visit your school’s website. The District Finance Department expects that if all families access the fund for these fees, the remaining funds will be fully used. The District will monitor the use of the Student and Family Affordability Fund from September 5 - November 30, 2023. Depending on the amount remaining on November 30, 2023, assistance with additional fees will be considered. The additional fees may include:

  • Second Semester Fees
  • Athletic Fees
  • Field Trip Fees

There will continue to be two methods to access this fund: SchoolCash Online and paper copies of forms in your school office. We appreciate that the Ministry of Education and Child Care has allowed us to carry forward the unused portion of the Student and Family Affordability Fund to continue to offer support to students and families for the 2023-2024 school year.
