Black Excellence Day
At Dallas, our upper intermediate students in Mrs. Brar's grade 5/6 class and Mrs. Saemerow's grade 6/7 class participated in Black Excellence Day by engaging in the Black Excellence Virtual Event 2023 hosted by the Ninandotoo Society and the Burnaby School District. This session served as a jumping-off point for students to engage in discussions and explore resources centered around Black Excellence and Black History.
Students and staff share "Why is Black Excellence Day important?
“At Dallas, diversity and being inclusive are topics that we engage students in on an ongoing basis. By marking January 15 as "Black Excellence Day”, there is a concentrated focus for students where resources, events, collaborations, and the accomplishments of Black people are highlighted and celebrated," stated Principal Claire Sullivan.
