After completion of a public tender process, Dawson Wallace Construction has been awarded the Valleyview Secondary Expansion contract for School District No.73.

Dawson Wallace, with Alberta offices in Edmonton, Calgary and Lethbridge and a newly established British Columbia office in Surrey, is ranked consistently among the top 50 general contractors in Canada, and last year they were listed in the top 20.

“We’re proud to be serving the community of Kamloops,” said Myron Grunsky, Dawson Wallace Principal. “We appreciate that the Valleyview School Expansion project provides us the opportunity to establish relationships with not only the School District and industry partners, but also with the community members who will ultimately occupy the newly completed school. We’re excited for the opportunity to leverage our collective experience for the benefit of all project stakeholders, and to further reinforce our commitment to servicing the construction needs of British Columbia’s communities.

Through the on-going completion of our multiple projects in throughout British Columbia, we’ve cultivated an extensive network of relationships with key subtrades throughout the province. Wherever possible on our projects throughout Western Canada, we endeavour to partner with local construction labour, trades and suppliers. We appreciate the value that their regional experience and expertise brings to our diverse company, and maximize this value for the clients we serve.”

The $34.5 million project will increase the school’s capacity from 675 to 1,200 students.

“Site preparation work is well underway, and construction on the building will begin shortly,” said Art McDonald, SD73 Director of Facilities. “We expect the project to be complete by September, 2022.”

The school expansion will be built to LEED Gold standards, and it will add 20 classrooms, a new gymnasium, multi-purpose areas and innovative education spaces to the school. It will also have dedicated wall space projectors, gender neutral private washrooms and change rooms, and learning and gathering areas both inside and outside the building.

The Minister of Education, Rob Fleming, announced the expansion of the school April 12, 2019. Plans for the expansion project, prepared by CHP Architects, were revealed in November, 2019.
