Substance Abuse and Prevention
Strategies for Reducing the Use of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
The Substance Abuse and Prevention and Intervention initiative is a partnership of School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) and the Phoenix Centre in Kamloops. The initiative is aimed at reducing the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by youth in schools by offering one-to-one and group counselling to students who seek more intensive intervention. Our coordinated prevention and early intervention strategies focus on developing positive youth development and relationships, connections to school, and social and emotional learning so that youth can live up to their full potential.
Supports and Services
Drug and Alcohol Counselling is provided for students requiring intervention strategies. These strategies are tailored to meet individual needs. From classroom lessons to individual supports, school-based alcohol and drug prevention and early-intervention are considered important elements of our education system.
