Three-Year School Calendars: 2025-2026, 2026-2027, 2027-2028
In accordance with Administrative Procedure 130: School Calendar, the School District No. 73 Calendar Committee met on January 21, 2025 to create draft calendars for the 2025-2026, 2026-2027, and 2027-2028 school years, including placements of non-instructional days. On January 27, 2025 the Board of Education reviewed the calendars. We are now looking for input from parents and students on these proposed calendars (linked below).

2027-2028 Calendar Considerations
In 2028 Kamloops will host the BC Winter Games. This event will require access to many district buildings, as such we are proposing two significant changes to the schedule of Non-Instructional Days during the 2027-2028 school year.
For the 2027-2028 school year, the Calendar Committee is proposing to move the Non-Instructional Day which typically falls in late November or early December to late February or early March. We would position this Non-Instructional Day and the typical April Non-Instructional Day back to back to have a four day break for students that aligns with whenever the BC Winter Games are scheduled. We have been informed that the exact dates for the BC Winter Games will not be known until the conclusion of the 2026 BC Winter Games. Research tells us that the BC Winter Games typically fall in late February or early March.
We are also proposing to move the Non-Instructional Day that typically falls in late January or early February to the Friday before the long weekend in February.
The committee, made up of representatives from all three employee groups, have discussed the positive impacts and challenges these changes might pose for district families and our community’s commitment to the BC Winter Games. We are now looking for parent and student input into these changes before we present the feedback, and a final calendar, to the Board of Education for approval.
