Location
Q: Why was this location chosen for the new secondary school?

A: The site was selected based on current and future housing development in Aberdeen. It is closer to where students live compared to other secondary schools (Sa-Hali Secondary and South Kamloops Secondary) and aligns with projected growth in the area.

Q: Where will the school building be located on the property?

A: The building will likely be located closer to Pacific Way.

Construction & Environmental Impact

Q: How long will construction take, and what measures will reduce disruption?

A: Construction is expected to take two to three years. Contractors must follow City noise bylaws and implement a dust control plan.

Q: What will happen to green spaces, trails, and wildlife?

A: Development may affect informal trails on School District property.

Tree nesting surveys will be conducted before construction to protect bird hatchlings, and other wildlife will relocate as development occurs.

Q: Will landscaping consider water conservation?

A: The site will include grass playfields and trees. As the provider of the water supply, the City of Kamloops is aware of the proposed new school and the resulting water usage requirements.

Traffic, Parking & Safety

Q: How will traffic be managed when the school opens?

A: A traffic impact assessment is being completed and will be shared with the City of Kamloops. Once the school is built, the City of Kamloops will designate school zone areas which will have 30km/hr speed limits.

Q: Will there be enough parking for staff and students?

A: Parking will be provided in accordance with City of Kamloops bylaw requirements.

Q: Will the school increase garbage, vandalism, or noise in the area?

A: Based on past experience, we are not aware of increases in garbage or vandalism. There will likely be an increase in daytime noise due to students participating in physical education classes as well as other school activities outside.

Community & Student Experience

Q: Will the new school affect property values?

A: We are not aware of any negative impact on property values for homes near schools.

Q: Will there be restaurants or shops nearby for students?

A: The school is designed to serve students living in Aberdeen. While there are limited commercial options nearby, this location is closer to where students live compared to Sa-Hali Secondary and South Kamloops Secondary, and closer to where projected future growth will happen.
