Alternative client software.

Note: If the above web browser plugin isn't working, download the standalone version of the NX Client from the NX downloads page.

Once the standalone version is installed, run the NX Client Connection Wizard and use the following settings:

Host: vs1.(school name).sd73.bc.ca (Example: vs1.skss.sd73.bc.ca)
Port: 55557 [If you are on Shaw Internet, and things are slow, try using port 70]
Desktop: Unix and KDE
Display: Available area [or 1024x768 for better performance]

The rest of the settings can remain as default.

If you have trouble connecting:

If you get "Connection timed out" errors, or if the connection appears to just hang, then you need to delete a file from your system called "known_hosts".

This file contains data from last year's configuration which is not compatible with the new server setup. The location of this file depends on the OS you are running:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\.ssh\known_hosts
Windows Vista and
Windows 7:
C:\Users\YourUserName\.ssh\known_hosts
MacOS X: /Users/YourUserName/.ssh/known_hosts

Once that file is deleted, you will be able to connect and login.
