Local Industry Supports the Next Generation of Stylists at Hairstylist Industry Dinner

Students in NorKam Secondary’s La Bella Saints Training Program recently had a valuable opportunity to connect with the professional world at the Hairstylist Industry Dinner. The event brought together aspiring stylists and local industry professionals for an evening of conversation, mentorship, and insight—an important step as students prepare to begin their 300-hour practicum placements.

Throughout the evening, students engaged directly with experienced hairstylists, salon owners, and other industry members, gaining a clearer understanding of workplace expectations, career pathways, and the day-to-day realities of the profession. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere allowed students to ask questions, build confidence, and begin forming connections that may support them as they transition from classroom learning to hands-on experience in salons.

The event reflects a commitment to building meaningful relationships that support and strengthen learning and growth, while also supporting the District’s mission to support learning opportunities and environments which inspire students to thrive.

For many students, the experience helped ease anxieties about entering the workforce. As one student named Tinsley shared, “I learned a lot about the social aspects of the industry, and the dedication that is necessary to be successful. I learned that I do not need to be as nervous about going to a salon (for practicum), as they were all really nice.”

The Hairstylist Industry Dinner highlights the strength of community partnerships and the generosity of local professionals in mentoring the next generation. Events like this ensure students feel prepared, confident, and connected as they take their next steps into the industry.
