Pass for the Cure – Young Leaders supporting Breast Health at RIH

Pass for the Cure aims to educate and empower students through sport, using volleyball to raise breast cancer awareness and support throughout October. “Inspired by the Spike Pink volleyball event started years ago with Jody Vosper, Pass for the Cure was created three years ago to include Grade 8 girls' volleyball teams and give younger athletes an opportunity to support this important cause”- Coach Wai Ma, Sa-Hali Secondary.

“Our Sa-Hali Secondary grade 8 girls volleyball team organized a volleyball tournament to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. We are very excited and proud to say that we raised over $2,000! We had multiple teams come out and play, and each team brought their own raffle basket to help raise even more money. We also had a bake sale with lots of treats for everyone to enjoy. To show our support for breast cancer awareness, we all wore our Pass for the Cure shirts. It was such a great experience for our team because we got to have fun playing volleyball while also helping support an important cause. We learned that even something as simple as a volleyball tournament can make a big difference. We are so thankful to all the teams, families, volunteers, and everyone who donated and helped make this possible!” – Team Captains Blaik and Camilla

The 2026 Pass for the Cure Tournament raised an incredible $2,027.65 in support of  the Rae Fawcett Breast Health Clinic at Royal Inland Hospital. Although Sa-Hali Secondary hosted and organized the event, this donation is being made on behalf of all participating schools: Brocklehurst, South Kamloops, Westsyde, Valleyview and Merritt Secondary.

The RIH Foundation is so grateful for these student athletes and their commitment to making a difference. We look forward to seeing these young leaders continue to do such amazing things for their community!
