Terry Fox Fundraising T-Shirts

Terry Fox Fundraiser T-Shirt Orders – Due before June 5th –

As we prepare for next year, we look forward to the annual Terry Fox run.  To help support the Terry Fox Foundation, we are organizing a t-shirt sale.  We would like to make the t-shirt order before the end of the school year to ensure that they arrive in time for our run on September 18th.  We will distribute the t-shirts to students who ordered in September. All orders count towards our fundraising goals.

Activities on School grounds after school hours

We need your help in keeping our school grounds safe and in good shape even after school hours. We are asking you to share the following our with you children and with the wider community:

  • No golfing on the school fields during school or after hours – We have had to replace divets on the field and now need to repair broken windows
  • Reminder about wheels on school grounds – please talk to your children, wheels need to be walked until off school grounds for student and staff safety – electric scooters and fast bikes are a safety hazard when doors are opening, and kids are arriving and leaving for the day
  • Dogs scratching holes – We have recently had a few new holes appear in our field.  It looks like maybe dogs have been scratching the ground and leaving 2-3in holes.   These are ankle busters.  I share this so that we can be aware of this as a community and hopefully keep a closer eye on our pets.

Talking to your kids about ‘stranger danger’

It’s important to frequently remind your children and teens to be mindful of their surroundings and stay vigilant against the potential danger of strangers.

The Kamloops-Thompson School District reminds parents and guardians to discuss “Stranger Danger” safety precautions with the young people in their lives. While we will continue to have these discussions with students at school, it is important they also continue to hear these safety tips from their parents and trusted adults at home.

Please remind children and teens of the following points:

  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you notice anything or anyone suspicious, notify a parent or another trusted adult, such as a teacher or grandparent.
  • Never go somewhere with a stranger. If a stranger ever approaches and offers a ride or treats (like candy or toys) or asks for help with a task (like finding a lost dog), step away, yell “No!” and leave the area immediately. Always notify a parent or another trusted adult of what happened right away.
  • Trust your instincts and your feelings. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable or if you feel like something’s just not right—even if you can’t explain why—walk away immediately and notify a trusted adult.
  • Don’t take shortcuts. Use main routes and avoid secluded areas.
  • Walk in pairs when possible and stay in well-lit, high-traffic areas.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back. Phone home when you’re leaving a friend’s house and say when you will be home.
  • Phone if you are going to be delayed or if your plans change.
  • If you believe you are being followed, call 9-1-1.

Communication is key when it comes to child safety. Sometimes it can be difficult to initiate conversations about possible dangers to your children, but it is essential in preparing them in case of emergency.

Tasty Tuesdays / Wednesday Wonders May Menu

I would like to ask that you pretty please to send students with a bowl/plate and cutlery if they will be enjoying Tasty Tuesdays and Wednesday Wonders.  We are still able to provide food to kids who forget but this means we are using disposable bowls/plates and cutlery.  This is both not good for the environment and costs us more to run the program.  We want to ensure that we are able to run the program for the entire year and ask for your help.

Now with a big thanks to Sarah and Kim, we are able to share the menu for the month of May. If you wish to make a donation to help sustain the program, you are welcome to send cash or a cheque in an envelope marked “Tasty Tuesdays” to the school with your child or you can use the following link:

https://sd73.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/44200/255/False/True

There is no need to sign up, just send your child to school with a plate/bowl and some cutlery.
