The Kamloops-Thompson School Board of Education isip_snine.60dc485899.png excited to open the District's newest school, Sníne Elementary, in September 2026

Sníne Elementary in Pineview Valley will open at the start of the 2026-2027 school year to help address long-standing space pressures in southwest Kamloops. Following extensive community consultation from October 2024 to March 2025, the Board of Education approved new school catchment boundaries that will take effect starting in September.

Approved Catchment Changes (effective September 1, 2026):

  • Pineview Valley moves from McGowan Park Elementary to Sníne Elementary
  • Lower Aberdeen area moves from Aberdeen Elementary to Sníne Elementary and from South Kamloops Secondary to Sa-Hali Secondary
  • Upper Sa-Hali area moves from Summit Elementary to McGowan Park Elementary
  • Lac Le Jeune, Cherry Creek, and Tobiano areas move from Dufferin Elementary to Sníne Elementary and from South Kamloops Secondary to Sa-Hali Secondary

Explore the catchment change maps below for more details.

Current SD73 families impacted by these catchment changes will receive an email notification in January 2026.

You can view detailed catchment maps below and search your address in the School Locator tool to confirm if you are part of the catchment Sníne catchment.

Students entering Grade 7 and Grade 12 in September 2026 (and their siblings) who are affected by these catchment changes may remain at their current school.

How to Pronounce Sníne

Sníne (pronounced Sneena) is the Secwépemc word for owl, and symbolizes strength, wisdom, and guidance. The Secwépemc have many legends of Owl not only being a messenger but also being a teacher of children.

The notion of a "pit house" Secwepemc winter home as the shape or rendering of this space was shared. Other ideas such as creating multi-use rooms that can be used for Art, Science, Music, and Drama, as some examples were reviewed (i.e., having sound panels, sinks, cupboards for supplies).
