Celebrating a Standout Spring for the Kamloops Thompson Honour Choir

District News |

The Kamloops Thompson Honour Choir (KTHC) has had a very busy start to the spring season. This year, the choir includes 55 students in Grades 4–9 from schools across the Kamloops-Thompson School District, who rehearse weekly with their teachers, Mrs. Froese and Ms. Alpaugh.

The KTHC had an incredibly successful year at the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts (KFPA) which took place from February 22 to March 14, 2026. The choir performed two challenging choral selections and placed first in their category, earning a provincial nomination. In addition, the choir was also honoured as the recipient of the Marian Owen’s Award. The students are thrilled to have the opportunity to compete at the Provincial Festival of the Arts this June.

We are also especially proud of the senior students in Grades 8 and 9, who performed a choral rendition of ABBA’s “Money, Money, Money.” They were invited to perform the piece at the Honours Concert in March, a significant recognition of their hard work. The performance brought energy and excitement to the stage, and the students were thrilled to share a piece they had worked so hard to prepare.

In addition, five KTHC students performed in solo classes at KFPA, earning multiple first and second place finishes. One student also received two awards and an additional provincial nomination, which is an incredible accomplishment.

KTHC is extremely proud of the dedication and hard work shown by our students. The commitment of teachers, students, volunteers, and families continues to make this program so special.

Thank you to all the wonderful KTHC volunteers, Sam Suppanz, Loni Horsley, Taqueesha Lightfoot, Blair Lloyd, and Joy Bowmeester, whose ongoing support helps make these opportunities possible.

These achievements would not be possible without the dedication of teachers and volunteers, as well as the continued support of the school district. We are incredibly grateful to be able to provide these meaningful musical experiences for students across the district.

What’s next for the choir? KTHC is excited to release a music video that the students participated in earlier this fall, and the students will also continue preparing for upcoming performances and the Provincial Festival later this year.

Thank you for your continued support of the Kamloops Thompson Honour Choir.
