The City of Kamloops and School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) are exploring the use of School District-owned lands at 2640 Greenfield Avenue and 6060 Dallas Drive for future community recreation use. 

The partnership supports long-term recreation planning in a growing community by preserving opportunities for future recreational space while respecting the School District’s need to retain flexibility for future educational requirements.

The School District does not anticipate needing the Greenfield Avenue and Dallas Drive sites for school development in the near term. Through the proposed arrangement, the City would be able to use the land for community recreation while the School District retains the ability to respond to future school capital needs.

Securing access to these lands will help build recreation capacity in Kamloops, supporting the community's role as a destination for tournaments and sporting events. The sites would also provide additional space for recreation programming and field sports, helping local youth develop skills, confidence, and healthy lifestyles through sport and active play.

"Planning for the future means making sure our community has space to play, grow, and stay active,” said Sherri Holmes, the City’s Sport, Recreation, and Wellness Manager. “Working together to use these lands for recreation, we are creating opportunities for future sports fields and community amenities while helping young people build skills, confidence, and healthy habits through sport and recreation."
