Each year, September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. This is an important opportunity for learning, reflection, and remembrance, grounded in the experiences of residential school Survivors, their families and communities.

Schools across the Kamloops-Thompson School District are committed to providing respectful, age-appropriate learning opportunities that support students in understanding this history and its continuing impacts. 

District and school teams have planned meaningful experiences and activities that go beyond wearing orange shirts. Throughout the week, students and staff are engaging in meaningful classroom lessons and discussions about Indigenous culture and traditions, school-wide gatherings, community events, drumming and singing, creating impactful displays and artwork, and activities centered around Truth and Reconciliation.

Our district’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation is an integral part of the District Strategic Plan and participating in learning and gathering around these significant days is an important part of the District’s Cultural and Identity Development strategic priority.
